ab chao design camp

I like to think I’m not horrible at decorating, but I’ll be damned, if I get stuck on a room, I cannot figure it out. I can drive myself mad staring at a room, moving furniture from here to there to back to where it was.

It kind of makes me lose my mind. And seriously, what is with homes in SLC having at least 4 living rooms? I’m good with one room-type per house. This is precisely why I love small homes – only a couple rooms, each with it’s own use, that don’t need a ton of furniture.

I decided it was time to learn a thing or two so I could conquer our extra living rooms in our new place and signed up for AB Chao’s mini design camp here in SLC. Aside from a shit load of laughs, champagne, and ribs, I finally learned those weird little rules that you pretend you know but really don’t when you’re decorating your own home. I’ll be documenting the progress of a few of our rooms on here and am going to try to make it to one of the full camps to make sure the champagne didn’t keep me from absorbing everything. Join the fun and sign up here for one of the upcoming camps!

rod

i typically loathe curtain rods. it’s so rare to find one that doesn’t look atrocious when the curtains are open, and while there are a multitude of cute ends, it never seems to do it for me. that is, of course, until i saw these bad boys by byron & byron. even if neon isn’t your thing, wouldn’t this be a fantastic DIY to breathe life into stale curtain rods? consider me sold.

loco

after so many years of being a renter, i seriously love any type of innovative wall coverings. whether you’re not allowed to paint, lack large enough artwork, or just need a change of pace, it’s always nice to have options. wall decals have been all the rage for awhile now, but i’m loving the decorative wall system by ixxi. the new loco series is my favorite of them all, but they’re all pretty damn incredible. check them out here.

jakob nylund

some people have a serious knack for creating simple spaces that are still totally inviting. i’m so smitten with jakob’s home – it’s so insanely subtle and soft on the eyes. i could lounge there for hours. days even…

see more photos, taken by jakob, here.

love victoria’s room above as much as i do? check out my guest post on mint about how to make it your own!
